In spirit of Halloween, l wanted to put a list together of the greatest scary movies of all time. For this, I knew I had to go straight to the source and consult our very own horror movie expert, Kathryn Labanosky.

Don't be scared, read below my spooky interview with Kat:

What do you love most about horror movies?

I love that there are so many different kinds of horror movies – so whatever you’re in the mood for scary wise, there are SO many options to choose from! I feel like horror movies make people feel emotions that they can’t from other movies and.. they are FUN!

What is the first horror movie you remember watching?

IT (1990) and Poltergeist (1982) were the first horror movies I remember watching as a kid (or was allowed to) and then watching The Exorcist, which probably really started my love for horror movies. I remember going to Blockbuster every weekend with my friends and we would rent movies based off the cover of the VHS – so many good ones!

How many scary movies do you usually watch during Halloween season?

Definitely a lot more than throughout the year – it’s usually the time that we rewatch movies we’ve seen before though. Matt (my husband) and I are going to try to do the 31 for 31 this year, where you watch 31 horror movies in the month of October.

What has been your favorite Halloween costume that you've done?

When Matt and I did the Midsommar couple’s costume - it was my favorite movie of 2019 and we both made our costumes together (pictured above). I even used Terry Town’s KK1619 without a hood and glued fake flowers to it. 😃

How do you like to spend Halloween?

Bar hopping around Hillcrest (our neighborhood) – I like seeing everyone’s costumes and it’s the most fun neighborhood in my opinion. We always end up at MO’s to watch their costume contest every year.

Anything else you want to tell me about your expertise on horror movies?

I’ve seen hundreds of horror movies, I’ve lost count. Matt and I have watched the best horror movies, the worst rated horror movies, etc. A funny fact is that Halloween isn’t even my favorite holiday – it’s Christmas - LOL!  So I think Christmas horror movies are a lot of fun too - like Black Christmas (1974), Gremlins, Krampus, etc.
